This section shows some of my sculptures done for various films and personal projects over the years. I do use 3D now but have a love for the physical process of working with clay and prefer this technique if I get the chance to use it. Trends in production now favor an all CG pipeline so this technique is becoming more rare and obscure.
I love going from the initial idea to a physical incarnation of a design. I start with sketches and when everyone is satisfied with a final version (which can take months or even years!) I do an anatomy study showing how the creatures inner workings will function. Then I make a model based on a combination of the anatomy study and the sketch. Usually at this point the model is scanned into the computer and rigged for animation based on the anatomy study and is ready for texturing and pre-lighting.
